What AXP is

Agricultural extension agents are critical to the transformation of Africa's farming sector. Working in remote communities, often underpaid and under-resourced, they help farmers learn and sustain better ways of cultivation. Most farmers cannot walk that path without them.

The All Africa Agricultural Extension Agent Prize recognises them. Every year, up to 100 agents across the continent will receive $1,000 each for outstanding leadership in agroecological farming — cultivation that uses locally available resources, prioritises soil health, and builds long-term resilience through practices like conservation agriculture, intercropping and cover crops.

No prize of this kind exists today. AXP will run for three years in the first instance, awarding $300,000 in total to the extension agents whose work makes the biggest difference on the ground.
